Solution to request access when sharing files from OneDrive

In the past when you selected a file in OneDrive and then selected “Share > "Copy Link” or “Copy Link”, the default behavior was the following:

The default behavior has changed to the below option. If you don’t change the setting and just place that link in your BB course, then students will receive the “Request Access” message when they click on the link:

To fix this issue:

1. In OneDrive, select your file and select “Share > Copy Link” or “Copy Link”.

2. Click “People with existing access can use the link”.

3. Click “People in Rhode Island College with the link”.

 

4. Make sure that it says “Can View” and then click “Apply

 

5. Go back into your Blackboard course, edit your Web Link and paste in the updated URL and then click “Submit”.

When your students click on the web link (linked to your file on OneDrive), they will have access to the file without receiving the “Request access” message.
