Grading a Discussion

This article will show you how to grade your student activities within a discussion which as a rubric associated to it.

To access a particular discussion's Grades & Participation, please do one of following:

Option A - Click on the discussion's title within the Course Content page if the discussion was placed on the Course Content page.

The right red arrow is pointing to the Module 1 Discussion. The right of the discussion's title is a blue bubble indicating of a new response.

Option B - Click on Discussions within the top navigation and then click on the discussion's title.

The downward red arrow with the number 1 is pointing to the Discussion tab in the course top navigation. The right red arrow with number 2 is pointing to the Module 1 Discussion.

Option C - Click Gradebook in the top navigation, click List View, click Gradable Items and then click on the discussion's title.

The downward red arrow with the number 1 is pointing to the Grade tab. The Left red arrow with the number 2 is pointing to the Black box with the three lines in the middle of it. The right red arrow with the number 3 is pointing to the Gradable Items tab.

Click on student name.

On the right hand side will show all of the students who participated in the discussion and all of the activity associated to the student in question will be highlighted.

On the right hand side provides you with the discussion analysis for the student you selected for grading. 

The downward arrow is pointing to the Discussion Analysis information on the right side of the page.

At the top you will see the how many responses and replies. (Note: The Response is the student's response to the discussion topic's question. Whereas, the Reply is the student reply or replies to their fellow students response. Response is compared to threads within discussions in Blackboard Learn Original.)

Click the capsule to enter in the grade.

The up red arrow is pointing to the score grade capsule at the top right-hand corner of the page.

If you have a rubric associated to the discussion, the rubric will open up where you then grade each criteria.

The rubric grade and comments are filled out.

If you want to add a comment per criteria, click the + plus sign.

The right red arrow is pointing to the hollow box with the plus sign in the middle of it to open the criterion feedback box.

Click the X.

The upward red arrow is pointing to the red box with the white x in the middle of it.

Click the next student to grade.

The right red arrow is pointing to the next student in the top right-hand corner.

 

You can either post all grades or post each student's grade one at a time.
