Creating a Custom Group Set

Creating a New Custom Group Set

Click Groups in the top navigation.

From the course top navigation, the right red arrow is pointing to the Groups tab.

Click New Group Set.

To the far right, the right red arrow is pointing to the New Group Set option.

 Highlight the default text andenter in a descriptive name for your group set.

In the title, New Group Set 10/6/23 was entered in.

For example

The Group Project Presentation is being displayed.

How would you like the students be added to the one of the groups within the group set.

Custom - The instructor adds students to a group within the group set.

Randomly assign - Students are randomly added to one of the groups within the group set.

Self-enrollment - Students will have the ability to add themselves to one of the groups within the group set.

Click Custom.

Click the (+) sign.

Towards the bottom, the left red arrow is pointing to the hollow circle with the plus sign in the middle of it.

The New Group 1 gets added. [NOTE: You can leave the name as is or enter in a new name for the group.]

The hand icon is pointing to the pencil icon to the right of New Group 1.

If I wanted to add in another group, I just click the (+) plus sign. (I.e. If I want a total of 3 groups within this group set then I would click the (+) sign twice so that that New Group 2 and New Group 3 are added. 

New Group 1, New Group 2, and New Group 3 are being displayed.

Now it's time to add students to one of the groups. Select the students you want to add to one of groups. 

Two of the students Miriam Badger and Scott Badger are being selected.

Click the three dots and select the group you want to add the highlighted students in.

The right red arrow with the number 1 is pointing to the three dotes to the right of Miriam Badger. The left red arrow with the number 2 is pointing to New Group 1.

The highlighted students have been added to the group.

Miriam Badger and Scott Badger have been added to New Group 1.

Repeat those steps to add the rest of the students to one of the other groups.

Once all fo the students have been added to one of the groups, click Save

Two buttons with the word Cancel in the gray box and the word Save in the black box. The Save button has a downward red arrow pointing to it indicating that this is the button to click.

The group set containing your custom groups has been created.

Below Group Project Presentation, the Hidden from Students is being selected at the moment.

By default, the group set will be hidden from students which means they will not be able to access their group. Select Visible to Students when you want your students to be able to access these group. 

The left red arrow with the number 1 is pointing to black triangle. The left red arrow with the number 2 is pointing to the Visible to students from the drop down menu.
