Overriding a Grade

Summary

This article will show you how you can override a student's assessment score within the Gradebook.

Note: This action will overwrite a student’s overall grade for an assignment, but it will not change their grades on individual attempts.

You may override grades from the gradebook or the grading window. Select an option to begin:

Option 1: Course Gradebook

1. Select the assessment whose grades you would like to override:

2. In the “Grade” column, click the grade pill next to the student whose grade you would like to override. Type the new grade into the grade pill and hit “Enter” or click out of the grade pill:

3. If the assignment is not set to post grades automatically, you will need to click “Post” to the right:

4. If prompted, click “Post Grade” in the popup window:

Option 2: Grading Window

1. Within the gradebook, select the student whose grade you would like to override:

2. Click the grade pill next to “Final Grade” in the top right corner. Type the new grade and hit “Enter” or click out of the grade pill:

3. If the assignment is not set to post grades automatically, you will need to click the ellipsis to the right of the score and select “Post grade” from the dropdown menu:

4. If prompted, click “Post Grade” in the popup window:
