Creating an Extended Audio Description File

This article will show you how to go about in uploading the extended audio description vtt file to your Kaltura video and how to add the audio description. It will also show you how to view Your EAD before embedding the video in your course​​​​​​​.

Step 1 - Download the EAD_Template VTT file

Click the below link and download the file to your local machine.

Step 2 - Add the VTT file to your video

(1) - Click on Tools > Kaltura - My Media.

(2) - Click the three dots to the right of the video.

(3) - Click the "Captions" tab and then click "Add extended audio description".

(4) - Click the "Browse" button and then select the downloaded EAD_Template.vtt file.

(5) - Do the following:

Select your language. (i.e. English)

Select 1% for the accuracy.

Under Label, type in the language. If your audio descriptions are in English, type in "English EAD," if they are in Spanish, type in "Spanish EAD," etc. 

Click "Save".

(6) - Click "Edit Captions".

(7) - Click the down arrow and select your extended audio description label. (i.e. English - English - EAD).

(8) - You will need to edit the first audio description's start time, end time and description. (Note: You can use the video preview window to see the start time and end time for your first audio description.)

(9) - If you need to add an additional audio description, you will need to do the following:

Place your pointer at the bottom of the existing audio description and then click on "Add audio description".

(10) - For the new audio description, enter in the start time and end time and then enter in a description.

(11) - Click "Save".

(12) - Move the slide bar over to the left until you are at 99% and then click "Save".


View Your EAD before embedding the video in your course

(1) - Click the browser's back button.

(2) - Play the video and you will see and hear your audio description.

You will also see the "AD" option on the player bottom navigation where you have the option to disable it.
