Google Drive: Making a Copy of a View Only Google File to Edit the Document

If you shared a Google file (Docs, Sheets or Slides) with your students with view permissions and you want them to be able to edit the document, then they will need to do the following steps.

1. Students will click on the link to give them access to the Google file.

2. Select File > Make a Copy.

3. They will see the following window appear. They can give the file any name they want and save the file either at the My Drive root directory or within an existing folder in the My Drive.

4. The Google file (Docs, Sheets or Slides) has been saved in their Google Drive. They will be able to share that file with you if you need to provide feedback to them.
